Ivaar Workan vs Kyp Durron

Who wins and why

Workan takes it. I think you can make the argument that Kyp is more powerful, but considering how large the gap required to break through one’s active barrier is, I doubt that’s going to be the deciding factor. Workan is, on the other hand, a significantly better duelist, based on comparisons with Viun Galaan and Luke.

Yeah, Workan solidly surpasses Kyp in duelling, the latter's only shot is his power.

Two reasons: 

1. According to the stipulations of the tournament, the character in question is going to unleash everything they have. While I vehemently disagree that with the idea that Kyp in LOTF, FOTJ is tiers below prior iterations, he still has a certain degree of restraint and would only (completely) cut loose in very specific and extreme situations. I’m not convinced that would be the case in a duel with Workan, at least not in most scenarios. 

2. I don’t think Malgus is as skilled as Workan.

Ultimately though, I’m still unsure on where I would place Kyp so you might notice me going back and forth on this.
