Which of Palpatine’s apprentices had the most depressing stories?

Take a pick between Vader, Dooku, Maul and Ren and explain why. Legends is also allowed.

Maul was taken as a child, raised in brutal conditions, cut in half and abandoned by his master. He then returned only to find he'd been replaced, his master killed his brother and he lost everything and went insane.
Dooku wasn't happy with the Jedi being subservient to the Senate and thought they should be in control. He then deemed the entire order corrupt, killed countless people and Jedi (including a guy who admired him), and did unspeakable things until he got cast aside by Sidious.
Vader was a slave, became a slave to the Jedi, was burdened by some vague prophecy, lost his mother, married out of love, feared losing that love, committed unspeakable crimes to try and save her, lost all of his limbs and was burned alive, was permanently trapped in a tight, uncomfortable suit, lost his wife anyway, and was haunted by that loss and his own self-hatred for decades after.
Vader by a long shot. Dooku's is pathetic.

It's Maul for me. Taken for Sith training as a child. Beaten by his own arrogance. Maimed and driven to madness. Replaced and later defeated by his Master, losing his family in the process. Always striving for revenge, only to fall to Obi-Wan's blade yet again. Never got to make his own choices, get some redemption or be happy at any point in his life.

well, maul did want to be a sith lord, even at a somewhat young age. while it may have been some brainwashing, he was proud of what he was in a different way than dooku and vader. he actually loved it, it seems to me.

mmm probably vader due to his depressing life as a cybernetic monster. he was basically alive against his own will which is really sad

While it's true that Vader's suffering as a Sith could've been greater than Maul's, in the end he became a Force ghost and seemingly found some peace. Anakin also had a (mostly) happy life as a Jedi, so there's that.

Technically, Maul found peace at the very end.Rohirrim wrote:While it's true that Vader's suffering as a Sith could've been greater than Maul's, in the end he became a Force ghost and seemingly found some peace. Anakin also had a (mostly) happy life as a Jedi, so there's that.
In canon for example, Anakin was bullied a lot.

vader by a large margine being raised as a slave, constantly bullied by his fellow peers on the temple, his mother died in his arms, married to padme, fear to lost her, manipulated his entire life by a sith lord, never have the chance to see his kids growth, committed terrible crimes to save his only thing that keep him happy, mermed and burn alive by his best friend, never fullfill his potential, encased in a rusty, technological desproportion of a suit and literally hold in chains by the emperor for decades until only his son came to save him....

And Vader did have a choice, and he chose wrongly. As a result, he was placed in a physical and mental prison up until the last second before Luke finally redeemed him. That’s what makes him the most tragic.

The worst bit about Vader was that if he chose the right option:
Padme would still be alive,
He'd never have been turned into a human toastie,
Leia and Luke would have grown up happy,
Anakin would have been made a master (hence why Mace wanted him to wait in the Council Chamber),
the Jedi Order would have survived,
Krayt would have never been created,
and Abeloth would never have been freed.
That said, if the Yuuzhan Vong had attacked, they'd have been murked. Maybe it was for the best.

And there is one blazing moment in which you finally understand that there was no dragon. There was no Vader. That there was only you. Only Anakin Skywalker.
That it was all you. Is you.
Only you.
You did it.
You killed her.
You killed her because, finally when you could have saved her, when you could have gone away with her, when you could have been thinking about her, you were thinking about yourself...
It is in this blazing moment that you finally understand the trap of the dark side, the final cruelty of the Sith-
Because now your self is all you will ever have.

he wouldve been fucking father level in about 10 years or so
luke and leia wouldve been OP as fuck tbh
Anakin wouldve prolly become grandmaster, at his older years
the jedi order wouldve been at its most powerful, easy
krayt mightve come back to the order, if i were to exaggerate
abeloth wouldve lost against anakin lol
yuzan vong wouldve had to face leia, obi wan, mace windu, anakinl luke, and a shitton more jedi. they wouldve been raped

What's with the Maul love? Like I don't see how "he didn't have a choice." He could have changed ideologies after sheev left him for dead.

He clearly did change ideologies after Sheev left him for dead, hence why he relinquished the Darth title in SWR.
