Path of Destruction is always a good EU starting book.

^ The Bane trilogy books are how I started getting into Legends.

Can't speak for a decent portion of the novels, but some good picks are Plagueis, ROTS Novel, and Kenobi. Honestly, I didn't care for the Bane trilogy, it took me forever to finish the last two novels, the only one I genuinely liked was PoD.

Should also check out Yoda: Dark Rendezvous.
Possibly the best EU novel I've read, only slightly surpassed by ROTS in quality.

Agreed. I prefer YDR to ROTS, but Stover is an incredible writer. Both him and Stewart have their respective strengths, which makes it hard to choose for me.

Don't listen to these basic people, YDR and ROTS are overrated, Shadows of the Empire is the most fun I've ever had reading a book and makes a really cool developmentfor Vader and Luke's father and son relationship

Although the Plagueis novel is my favourite EU novel, it’s quite complex and isn’t really the best book to read first. As others have said, I’d start with the Bane trilogy

I started with the Bane trilogy. Path of Destruction in particular is 10/10, insane character development.

Dark Empire, the best by far.

My first entries were the Jedi Apprentice books; after that, the Bane trilogy. I'd recommend the latter for now. You might also want to read the Darth Maul books you have before you go to the prequels because they provide some background for Maul in TPM. Darth Plagueis is also one of my favorites but it's honestly meant for advanced aficionados of the EU - it makes references to other material left, right, and center. So probably straight to TPM and AotC, after which you should read the Dark Lord trilogy (LoE is a direct prequel to RotS and DL:TRoDV a direct sequel to it).

^ This. The Plagueis novel is also longer than the other books from what I remember, and it covers so much time i.e. the end of Plagueis's apprenticeship to Tenebrous, Plagueis meeting Sidious, Sidious's background psychotic tendencies, then it covers the several years of Sidious's apprenticeship to Plagueis, then Sidious finding Maul, some of Sidious's relationship with Maul, Sidious betraying Plagueis etc. You can't rush through this book.Azronger wrote:My first entries were the Jedi Apprentice books; after that, the Bane trilogy.
