It isn't a mechanic, it's an in-game quest. You literally have to be touched by his Force power to progress.

The spirits of the ancient Sith on Yavin IV in-game though are nothing more than an easter egg-type deal, for a hidden bonus (and completely non-story) quest.

Those quests are canonical, hidden or otherwise.

Nothing indicates this is true.

Literally every game in the mythos is always considered to be canon to 100% completion. This has been policy since the Jedi Academy games.

Technically, KOTOR was the first, considering Academy is post, but that’s just nitpicking.
