Thanaton never impressed me. Fay has some pretty insane hype. I'll back her.

Darth Thanaton - by virtue of vast combat-applicable experience and Sith Sorcery; he is not lacking in raw power either.

Master Fay was a powerful Jedi but not much battle-tested; she was into peaceful resolution of conflicts throughout her life. When Master Fay ran into Asajj Ventress, the former's lack of experience became an issue and Ventress found a way to kill her.

That is absolutely not why she died or was fatally wounded, lol.

She could tolerate significant injuries as per one source. Asajj managed to impale her and she still had the capacity to help Obi-Wan reach safety.

She is impressive but has nothing on Darth Thanaton (to defeat him).

The legendary Sith Inquisitor was on another level in comparison to the likes of Asajj Ventress and numerous Lords by the time he confronted Darth Thanaton (FIRST encounter) but the latter one-shotted him with an unknown technique.

Darth Thanaton teaches Master Fay how to become one with the Force by virtue of his vast combat-applicable experience and Sith Sorcery...

Being very strong in the Force, able to prolong life and put Asajj to sleep does not translate into defenses against Sith Sorcery (techniques that are virtually unknown and lost in time). Recall what happened to Luke Skywalker when he had to experience powers he did not understand (Sith Sorcery of Exar Kun).

Thanaton could level a city and he'd still be trash by being sub Nox. Nox did nothing impressive until she got a huge power boost from the ghosts, and even then she's not even the strongest on the Dark Council.

Flow-walking is incredibly dangerous application of Sith Sorcery:

"You have a rare pull among ghosts. It’s a source of great power, but it has destroyed many a Sith." - Lord Kallig

There is not a single documented example of any Sith Lord replicating this kind of Sith Sorcery with success throughout history.

Palpatine, in one of his visits to Korriban, offended unknown Sith spirits and they mortally wounded him. Lucky for him, his followers got to him in time and took him to safety where he was revived in a Bacta Tank. Force ghosts are powerful entities, and Sith spirits are dangerous in particular.

He passed deadly Sith Trials of his time with flying colors even though Overseer Harkun wanted him to fail by dispatching him to destinations from where other acolytes would not come back such as the lair of a deadly Terentatek and Dashade assassin named Khem Val (thousands of years old; served Tulak Hord). He defeated multiple skilled opponents on different occasions, destroyed structures, and felled Lords and Darths - nothing impressive.

Force ghosts were CHEAT CODES; made him "nigh-omnipotent."

The legendary Sith Inquisitor becomes the most powerful Sith in the galaxy as Darth Nox; it was not possible to defeat/kill him as long as he had those Force ghosts bind to him and he could channel their combined raw power to his advantage in his exploits. He could wear any opponent down and destroy him/her eventually.

BioWare showed little interest in expanding his story further unfortunately, and DEFAULT assumption is that he released those Force ghosts.

Darth Malgus is good and his story deserves resolution but BioWare should consider giving spotlight to Darth Jadus and Darth Nox in future expansion sets - both can be advanced as biding their time for you know...

Darth Nox can be the next big thing in the galaxy. He could re-acquire Force ghosts...
