They're 7 foot (on average) tall, 1,000 pound lizard people with a culture built around survival, violence, & survival by way of violence. They have a redundent nervous system, several of every organ, & above average (some extreme) healing abilities. They can live for more than 1,000 years. They are superhumanly strong & a small minority of them can utilize Biotics (Mass Effect's version of the Force).

They almost took over the Milky Way galaxy several hundred years before the events of Mass Effect. They were only stopped by a disease that caused only 1 in 1,000 child births to be successful.

They're essentially an ode/parody to/of the Mandalorians.
