Tagriss, Lord of Dread

Respect Thread - Lord Tagriss Respect Thread (ft. the Darkstaff and the Seeds of Rage) EaLpy4g

When players finally catch up to Lord Tagriss, they find that he has managed to crack open one of the Seeds of Rage, and is using it to infuse himself with almost limitless power.

In a cinematic final showdown, players do battle with Lord Tagriss, who uses his newfound powers to bat players around like flies, open force-crushing black holes, and electrify the flooded room.

To defeat Tagriss, players must activate their Seeker Droids to dislodge the force crystals embedded within the room, and use them to attack the Seed of Rage directly. The resulting explosions temporarily break Tagriss' connection to the Seed, making him vulnerable (albeit briefly).

— Michael Ammer (level designer for mission involving Lord Tagriss)

Introduction

Welcome everyone to my first ever Respect Thread (™). I decided to make a thread for a more obscure character but powerful character that I would surmise most people are not familiar with, so lets get to it. Lord Tagriss was a member of the Dread Host who served as the main military force for the Dread Masters. He held the title of Dread Lord (fun fact: he is the only member of the Dread Host with this title) and acted as an agent of Dread Master Bestia who was noted to be "perhaps the most powerful of the Dread Masters". He was given the task of leading a contingent of the Dread Host to steal the Seeds of Rage from the Emperor's Arcanum and planting them on numerous planets across the galaxy in order to drive entire planetary populations mad. He acts as the final boss to the short Seeker Droid questline in a Heroic 4 mission (quests designed for four players) which takes place in-between the events of Makeb and the Dread War storyline which would place it sometime during 3639 BBY. The protagonists first meet Lord Tagriss on the Arcanum and then encounter him again on Illum, where they fight to the death.

Codex entry for Dread Master Bestia:
Spoiler:

Codex entry for the Arcanum:
Spoiler:

Force Jump (Control)

Destroys a blast door, Force jumps and destroys a purge droid, and then Force jumps onto the walkway above:
Spoiler:

Force jumps towards the protagonist:
Spoiler:

Force jumps away after using the Darkstaff to telepathically attack the protagonist:
Spoiler:

Force jumps onto statue and then towards the door:
Spoiler:

Uses some variation of Force jump called "Dread Bomb":
Spoiler:

Force jumps towards the corrupted Jedi forge:
Spoiler:

Telekinesis (Alter)

Force chokes an incapacitated Dread Guardsman who is on Belsavis from Illum:
Spoiler:

Force pushes the protagonist while amped by the Seed
Spoiler:

Suspends the protagonists with some sort of telekinesis while simultaneously moving large kyber crystals:
Spoiler:

Simultaneously pushes and pulls the protagonists (look closely in the background to see another member of the group getting pushed) while amped by the Seed:
Spoiler:

Force chokes the protagonist:
Spoiler:

Uses an ability called "Rage Burst" which is the red energy you see and then Force chokes the protagonists while amped by the Seed:
Spoiler:

Force Lightning (Alter)

Electrocutes the water on the ground causing the lightning to spread all across while amped by the Seed:
Spoiler:

Breaks a large kyber crystal into two pieces with lightning:
Spoiler:

Uses an ability called "Rage Lightning" while amped by the Seed:
Spoiler:

Sith Sorcery/Unknown

Summons tentacles of an "unknown creature" with some type of energy burst:
Spoiler:

Summons a "Void Pit" (black hole) while amped by the Seed:
Spoiler:

Darkstaff

The Darkstaff is one of the most dangerous and powerful artifacts in the mythos, capable of draining and telepathically dominating powerful Force-users as well as the teleportation of entire solar systems into the future and destroying planets. While one may feel inclined to scale Tagriss off of these feats, I would advise against it since the Darkstaff for one needs to absorb energy in order to work and two has a mind of its own, so we can never be sure of its intentions. So I will only be mentioning the things we see the Darkstaff do in the game.

Inscription on the container for the Darkstaff:
Spoiler:

Uses the Darkstaff to telepathically attack the protagonist and then Force jumps away:
Spoiler:

Uses the Darkstaff to destroy the sarcophagus containing Patient Zero:
Spoiler:

Uses the Darkstaff to interrupt some type of energy field containing Akriss Veng (a Dashade shadow killer) which is being created by what appears to be some type of Sith holocron:
Spoiler:

Darkstaff kills and potentially drains Dread Guardsman Varrow who was not able to contain the power of the Darkstaff, unlike Lord Tagriss. The staff enables Varrow to summon long-dead Ancient Sith and other creatures and becomes immune to damage from the protagonist:
Spoiler:

Seeds of Rage

Lord Tagriss is capable of channeling the power of a Seed of Rage which was created by Lord Fulminiss. The red energy you see flowing into Tagriss while he is levitiating is the power of one of the Seeds of Rage.

Codex entry:
Spoiler:

Given enough time, the Seeds were capable of devastating planetary populations:
Spoiler:

Seeds where so dangerous that they had to be launched into a sun to prevent people from claiming them:
Spoiler:

Zombie-like Dread Guard corrupted by the Seed's influence:
Spoiler:

Sithspawn corrupted by the Seed's influence:
Spoiler:

It should be noted that the energy from one of the Seeds of Rage after being interrupted was responsible for Lord Tagriss' death, rather than from a direct blow from the protagonists:
Spoiler:

@Praxis Great RT for an unknown character. Well done !
The saddest part of this is the fact that it will be nearly impossible to use it in any sort of VS because of the fact that nearly all is game mechnaics.
Nonetheless once again congratulation !

I appreciate the praise, and yes, Tagriss is a somewhat of an unquantifiable anomaly. However, given Chee’s stance on game mechanics and the developer’s description of the fight, it seems that the team fighting him could only defeat him through the use of the kyber crystals to interrupt the ritual with the Seed, meaning that the protagonists wouldn't have been able to defeat him through conventional means whilst he is being amped. So at a minimum he is probably stronger than the strike team while in his amped state. My whole goal with this is to start fleshing out the Dread Masters and the Sith Empire by detailing the lesser known Sith to set a basis for the more central ones, so expect more RT’s centered around the more obscure members of the Sith Empire.
